PRESS RELEASEINAUGURATION OF THE AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR-NAUTICAL FLAG PROGRAMOn Saturday August 6, 2005, at 5 pm, the Pass-A-Grille Yacht Club will be the premier of the new maritime automated external defibrillator program, which will be celebrated with the raising of the nautical defibrillator flag on the "Maggie T" and on the club flagstaff. The nautical flag is a bright red heart with a center lightning bolt displayed on a white field with the letters "AED" displayed in blue(See image below). The flying of this flag will identify any boat that has a defibrillator on board and readily available. A peel-off decal with the same symbol will mark the location of the AED. Yacht clubs, power squadrons, regattas, and other boaters will be encouraged to acquire a defibrillator and are authorized to fly this flag any time they have an available functional defibrillator on board. Clubs, marinas, and power squadrons will also be authorized to fly the flag on their flagstaffs. Defibrillators are available without prescription (Philips Heartstart, for example). The flags and decals are available at cardiaccarecritique.com. Eric E. Harrison, M.D.
